Fun & Fabulous Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Father’s Day happens on June 17th, so here are some gift ideas that I showed in my segment today on the Your Life Arizona morning showMany are sold at local retailers for good last minute ideas.  I also found some unique ones that can be ordered, so take a look at this now so you have time to get your Dad’s Day shopping done.

Unique Ideas:

*Customize something fun specific to Dad – I ordered this burnt orange T-shirt from Tee Chip for my Texas Longhorn alum hubs.  This shirt says it all and I am excited for him to see it on Father’s Day as I think it is perfect, comfortable, fun and this theme fits him perfectly!

I ordered this from Tee Chip for $26.95 and I had no issues with the company, but I found a lot of reviews that complained of long shipping delays, so please note that I only ordered from Tee Chip once and had no problems, but others did.  You could do something similar for the father you are shopping for with his alma mater printed like this one with other customized gift companies.  I found a ton of companies that do this kind of stuff online.  Or go to one of the As You Wish locations and create something like this there on a mug, etc.

*Make Dad a customized drink kit – Pair his favorite coffee, tea and/or scotch, whiskey, etc. in a basket and add the HyperChiller(sells at site for $29.99).The HyperChiller turns any beverage into a perfectly cooled drink in one minute without ever touching ice.

Photo of this cool device, that is a perfect Dad’s Day gift is from the HyperChiller website.

With the HyperChiller’s simple multi-chamber design, a beverage is exposed to the equivalent of over 30 large ice cubes.  The drink is then protected by two layers of food grade stainless steel.  This way there’s zero dilution in the process of cooling. Just leave it in your freezer, then take it out, pour your beverage in (coffee, wine, spirits etc.) and the HyperChiller will rapidly chill it in just one minute. This handy device can be used several times in a row.  When done, place back in the freezer to use again later. It’s compatible with all brewing methods and even fits directly into most full-size single cup brew.

*Make Dad a Manly Spa Basket – Place his favorite soaps, shaving products, a nice bath robe and more in a specialty spa kit for him!  Add slippers, a gift card for a massage, a bottle of wine, healthy herbal teas or a gift card to a spa store.  I kept mine simple, as you can see below…Olba’s Herbal Remedies Olbas Oil and Olbas Inhaler is included in my gift basket for a good massage oil and inhaler that helps to clear sinuses.  The oil is great for massage and I like the Olba brand because it doesn’t smell feminine, making it perfect for Dad.  Olbas originated in Switzerland over 100 years ago and is made with a blend of six essential oils including peppermint oil, wintergreen oil, oil of cloves, juniper oil, eucalyptus oil and cajeput oil.  The Olbas Herbal Remedies Aromatherapy Inhalant and Massage Oil .95 fluid oz bottle sells for $19.95 here.

*Camping Gift Kit – Create a basket with camping items. Pack with his favorite camping essentials and his tried and true camping faves.  Other ideas are…

*Yoshi Copper Grill & Bake Mats ($9.99 for a 2-pack sold at amazon, Walmart, Walgreens) — Give the dad who likes to grill these handy mats that enabling grilling without the food falling through the grate.  Foods still have grill marks, too.  The mats still must be cleaned, but not the grill.  Perfect for the camping gift kit and for an outdoor or cooking/grilling themed gift.

*iHome Drop Splashproof Bluetooth Wireless Speaker with Speakerphone – I paid $24.99 for this at Walgreens, BUT I found it for only $11.99 at Groupon.com so definitely check that site for Dad’s Day gift savings.  That is 50% savings.  This handy contraption pairs with your smart device to provide a wireless speaker and speaker phone.  It is splash proof, so it works by the pool (not immersed, though), in the shower and out in the rain.  A great gift to pair with a camping kit.

*The Mini Fire Fighter product.  I do want to say that I haven’t personally tried this product, so I haven’t tested it myself.  So do keep a fire extinguisher on hand.  Check out what this compact user-friendly aerosol firefighting product does.  It is safe, easy to use and tested to EU and USA standards. Mini Firefighter is an essential safety tool to have around the home, the car, in the caravan, near the BBQ, in the toolbox, on the boat or in fact anywhere there is a risk of a fire.  Mini Firefighter is non-toxic, non-irritant and biodegradable which can be used with care in confined spaces.  It’s high cooling capacity forms a stable, heat resistant seal which suffocates the fire stopping re-ignition and turning fat and oil into a soapy mixture.

Picture from the Mini Firefighter website.

Mini firefighter is also easy to clean up as the foam dissolves after use.  I think all households should have this on hand and it makes for a fun and smart addition to Dad’s Fun Thank You-Do-It all gift basket!  The 8.45 oz can sells for $19.50 here.

Did I list any ideas that fit the father in your life?  I am wishing all a Happy Dad’s Day.

Beauty Themed Gift From Line That Will Touch Her Heart

A fun beauty line that has perfect beauty products for Mom is called Beauty Bakerie. With cleverly named items like Flour Setting Powder ($24), Wake & Bake Hydrating Face Oil ($28) and Cake Mix Demi Matte Face Foundation ($28), this makeup would be fun to give in a basket with baking items.  This line has a touching story about the founder that is perfect for Mother’s Day.  Founder Cashmere Nicole was a single 16-year-old mother on welfare.  She founded this makeup line and has found success that enables her to donate monthly to teen moms in need.  What a special story. On The Go Smart Snacks Seen In My 3TV Segment

Manic:  My metabolism since turning 50!  Sometimes I am quite hungry and other times not at all, but no matter what, it is way harder to drop a few pounds than it was when I was younger.  And I love snacks.  KIND Bar minis are my new favorite find, so that is a go to snack for sure.  But many other readily accessible unhealthy snacks tempt me when I am on the run.  I am on the go a lot, so grabbing a quick snack is many times necessary, but also tempting with so many unhealthy foods out there.  So what is a manic managed mom to do about snack attacks?

Managed:  I have taste tested some easy to grab snack solutions that work well when you are running around town.  Take a look at my yummy picks…

The Smartest Snack Solution

The smartest snack solution is to stick with good ol’ veggies and fruits.  I buy the precut veggie tray at my grocery store, but I try to get the tray without the tempting Ranch dressing.  Also try different fruit combos like blueberries and pomegranate seeds together.  I like to mix this colorful and nutritious combo in with my plain Wallaby organic yogurt for a nutritious yogurt that I sweeten myself.  Try it! Or freeze grapes and you will love how they tastes just like a popsicle.

Of course, there are times when we want snacky snacks instead of fruit and veggies exclusively, so here are some of the lower calorie snack ideas that work for me.  I have listed them in categories that include salty crunch, sweet tooth and coffee drinks/ice cream alternatives. Take a look…

Salty Crunch Busters

Want something salty and crunchy?  Say no to potato chips and instead try these ideas…

*Skinny Pop Popcorn – only 100 calories in the snack bag, non-GMO, gluten free and no artificial ingredients.  Yes please!

*Organic Himalayan Pink Salt Popcorn – at 100 calories a bag, this snack fills me up and I appreciate that only three ingredients fill my snack bag which include organic non-GMO popcorn, coconut oil and Himalayan salt.  Protein and fiber are also good byproducts you get with this snack.

*Blue Diamond Whole Natural Almonds snack pack – Only 100 calories per pack and these are easy to throw in my purse.  Only one ingredient is listed…almonds.  Perfect choice!

*Skinny Quinoa Sticks – I just found these at Walgreens and I am hooked!  As the website says, these tasty snacks contain real ingredients like quinoa and omega-3 rich chia seeds that make this whole grain snack a smart choice. These crunchy sticks are a delicious and family-friendly snack with a big taste, minus the bad stuff.  These have zero trans fat, cholesterol, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and this company boasts that the skinny sticks contain 30% less fat than the leading potato chip.  Sold plus they taste really good!

*Terra Real Vegetable Chips – These are my new obsession that keep me away from potato chips.  Non-GMO in original Sea Salt flavor, these guys contain a seasonal mix of root veggies that include sweet potatoes, yuca, parsnip, sea salt and beet juice.  At 150 calories a snack bag, my urge for crunchy chips is satisfied with this better choice.  BUT I must admit that after doing some research, these chips don’t add up to a healthy snack, but I eat these instead of potato chips now because I still believe that root veggies are better than white potatoes.

*Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Rosemary & Olive Oil Crackers – Gluten free, 100% whole grain with no artificial colors and flavors, these are my go to crackers now.  Perfect with a nice slice of cheese on top.

Sweet Tooth Treats

Oh, that tempting sweet tooth!  Instead of candy bars, cookies and ice cream, try these savory snacks…

In place of a candy bar, try these…

*KIND Dark Chocolate Almond Mint Bar – I especially like this flavor because of the yummy chocolate mint combination.  And there are several KIND varieties that only have 5 grams of sugar with ingredients that can be pronounced.  So, you know what you are eating.  This bar is 200 calories, so it is filling, and it also contains 5 grams of protein.

*Power Crunch is the protein bar that my trainer recommends.  He likes these because each bar only has 5 grams of sugar and no sugar alchols.  I love this bar because it is delicious and tastes like a wafer cookie without the chalky aftertaste that many other protein bars leave plus the Power Crunch bar won’t result in a sugar crash.  My daughter loves the chocolate mint flavor and my favorite is the peanut butter crème variety.

Instead of cookies, try this…

*Emmy’s Organic Coconut Cookies Dark Cacao – Starbucks sells these now in their snack section.  USDA organic, vegan and gluten free, these mini cookies are made with fair-trade cocoa powder and cold pressed coconut oil.  One cookie has 100 calories and 5 grams of sugar.  Not bad for a cookie and the coconut flavor and texture is chewy and satisfying, so one cookie takes care of my sweet snack craving.  I especially appreciate the whole ingredients in these cookies that don’t contain high fructose corn syrup.

Iced Coffee Craving/Ice Cream

Instead of a sugar filled iced coffee or blended shake at the drive-thru coffee shop, try this…

*Enlightened Cold Brew Coffee Chip – Buy a box of these yummy ice cream bars and only take in 90 calories a serving instead of the typical coffee shop blended coffee drink which can run as high as 340 calories and a whopping 47 grams of sugar for a drink like the 16 oz Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino. That used to be one of my old faves before I gave that up!  I am especially happy to find the Enlightened ice cream bar that only has 5 grams of sugar.  Enlightened has other ice cream flavors as well like mint chip.

Interesting Curb Craving Product:  Meal Enders

*Try Meal Enders.  I heard about this interesting snack candy idea on social media.  So I ordered a bag of yummy chocolate mint flavored Meal Enders and I do think they sort of work.  I say sort of because they aren’t cheap, unfortuntely.  So you have shell out the dough for this snack solution and I can’t prove that they really curb your appetite and keep you from snacking and consuming dessert or if it is a mental thing.  But they do taste good, they do satisfy my urge to keep on eating and the tingly taste that is the aftertaste feels like an after dinner mint.  Somehow all of this signals the brain that eating is done.  Again, I am not a spokesperson for Meal Enders and I don’t know for sure if they truly work, but for me, they do the trick on a lot of days.  Not every day, but a lot of days if I pop a Meal Ender after my meal, that satisfies me instead of ordering a dessert.  That is a good thing.  I just don’t like the price.  One solo pack that contains 25 pieces costs $16.95 or get a 3-pack for $34.95 or a 9-pack bundle for $89.95.  Flavors include Citrus, Cinnamon, Mocha and Chocolate Mint.  I have only tried the Chocolate Mint and my daugther and I both like that flavor a lot.  I have ordered the Mocha, so I hope I like it.

What are your smart snack solutions?  Leave your yummy ideas in the comments section.  Happy snacking and happy summer shopping for fashions, too.  That is also a good remedy when you feel a snack attack coming on…try on last summer’s clothes or go shopping!  In any event, eat as healthy as you can!

Top Travel Sized Toiletries for Guys & Gals

With spring break and summer vacation just around the corner, here are our top travel sized toiletries for both the guys and the girls.  My blog beauty expert, Bianca, also a beauty expert for Walgreens, showed me what’s hot for the travel beauty bag based on quality and customer feedback.  Take a look and don’t pack until you check out our list that I showed in my 3TV Your Life Arizona morning show segment that aired last week.

Did you know that coconut oil comes in a multi-purpose travel size?  Some of your favorite brands are now made travel sized, which is so handy for your next getaway! And most are sold at the drug store, so see below to see the stuff you can conveniently buy at Walgreens and another awesome product for all over (especially for dry heels) called Toe JuiceIt is all below.

But first, note that we will give away some of these goodies this Friday in our Freebie Friday drawing.  If you are a managedmoms.com subscriber, you are automatically entered.  If you haven’t become a subscriber, do so because most Fridays we do a drawing for cool prizes.  And you don’t have to enter as being a subscriber to this blog automatically enters you.  The winner is drawn on Fridays through random.org.

Now let’s get to the good travel sized stuff…

For the Gals

*Soap & Glory She’s A Natural Day & Night Face Palette ($20 at Walgreens) – Perfect for travel because you get six products in one compact easy to pack palette. A creamy blusher & highlighter, a bronzer and three eye shadows are all included in this pretty pack by the very reputable Soap & Glory line.  This palette also works for day and night makeup, so less face makeup to pack for numerous events while traveling.

*Real Techniques Base Mini Expert Face Brush ($5.99 at Walgreens) – Love this mini makeup brush that sports a full-sized brush head for foundation application on the go.

*Soap & Glory Poutstanding Lip Contour Crayon ($6 at Walgreens) – Pack two in one products with this handy beauty tool because one side is matte lip color and the other gives the lips a glossy shine.  So, the matte end is used to line the lips and then simply flip the stick to fill in with the shine side to get full luscious lips. I personally tested this lip crayon and I loved how smoothly and evenly it went on my lips.  Plus, it felt light, but it also gave me full color shapely lips.  I am a fan of the Poutstanding Crayon by Soap & Glory!

*Secret Freshies On-The-Go Deodorant ($5.99 at Walgreens) – Small handy little ball shaped deodorant that fits in a purse, so it takes up less room when packing.  This is one beauty item that you don’t want to leave behind. So handy and we dig the relaxing lavender scent.

*Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate Shea Butter Shampoo & Conditioner ($3.29 at Walgreens) – My daughter and I tried this line last year and we fell in love with it, so we are thrilled to see that it comes in a travel size.  It is sulfate-free, smells incredible and is organic.  Just look on the side of the bottle to see that this line contains no synthetic dye, no mineral oil, no parabens, among other unwanted ingredients.  It does contain pure coconut water and pure aloe juice.  Such good stuff and travel friendly!

*Batiste Dry Shampoo ($4.29 at Walgreens) – Dry shampoo is the perfect beauty product to have when traveling just in case you need to skip washing your hair due to accommodations or just to take a day off from the daily routine.  This brand has a nice scent that is not overbearing, but is a fragrance you desire when needing to use dry shampoo in the first place.  The coconut tropical scent is perfect for the spring and summer season.

*Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack Under Eye Brightening Hydrogel Patches ($5 at Walgreens) – Bianca tells me that one of her customers places these under her tired eyes in flight while she naps on the trip!  The patches are clear, and she says that placed them under her eyes on a recent flight to Chicago, set her phone alarm for 20 minutes and then removed them.  She had refreshed eyes with no bags when she landed, she tells us!  So cool!  They are lightweight and easy to pack, so for an under-eye pick-me-up on a long trip, throw this in your makeup bag. The price is good, too.

*Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes ($2.49) – The most travel friendly make-up remover item are the wipes and Neutrogena makes a good one that is gentle while also removing mascara.  This brand is alcohol free, ophthalmologist tested, dermatologist tested and allergy tested, so we give these travel sized wipes a travel thumbs up.

*Botanical Sunscreen 30 Broad Spectrum SPF ($3.99 at Walgreens) – Made by Australian Gold, which is a reputable company for good sunscreen that is non-chemical and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.  Perfect travel size that offers UVA/UVB protection.

*Soap & Glory Hand Food ($4 at Walgreens) – Don’t forget hand lotion when traveling because flying, different climates and excessive hand washing (which you will want to do, especially during travel in cold and flu season) will dry out your hands, so having this stuff on hand (no pun intended) is handy!

For the Guys

*American Crew Fiber Hair Setting Gel ($11.49 at Walgreens) – This is what the pro barbers use and men love this product, so being able to get it in a travel size is a bonus.  It has a nice light scent, sets hair well without being greasy or too stiff.  This also works well as a sort of a dry shampoo for the men, too.

*Men Degree Cool Rush Antiperspirant ($1.69 at Walgreens) – Just for him and the travel size is perfect.

Shared His & Her Travel Toiletries

*Toe Juice ($7.20 at www.toejuice.com) — I have showed this product before and love how it heals my dry heels (no pun intended!), so I am thrilled to share that this is sold in a travel-friendly sizeToe Juice features DermaVine, a healing combination of plant-based extracts like lemon peel oil and willow bark extract, that work to heal all kinds of skin ailments.  Developed by a high school chemistry teacher for his infant son’s cracked feet, this product works beautifully for the extra dry heels I get on my feet when I wear daily flip flops and high heels.  Since that is common foot attire during travel, pack a travel sized Toe Juice and a pumice in your bag to rid those dry heels quickly and efficiently when you shower or bathe at your hotel.  Great product!

*Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play ($5.99 at Walgreens) – This brand is popular for both the girls and guys and it doesn’t leave hair crunchy and tough but is volumizing with a good hold.

*Hempz Original Herbal Body Moisturizer ($6.99 at Walgreens) – Enriched with 100% pure hemp seed oil and paraben free and vegan, this brand is popular for both the guys and gals, so the travel size is a nice option to buy.  Top ingredients like shea butter, ginseng, vitamin A, C and E are also great for the skin.  The scent is light, which is why it appeals to the menfolk.

*VitaCoCo Coconut Oil (2.99 at Walgreens) – This little travel sized jar of the good stuff serves so many purposes for both sexes.

Amazing product that can be used for both gals and guys on cuticles, lips and more. For beards on men, too!

*Well Walgreens Dental Travel Kit ($2.59 at Walgreens) – I am going to buy a stack of these for my own travel and to have handy for guests.

Perfect dental travel kit behind the dry shampoo we like. The dental kit is under $3 at Walgreens. Good buy for products that you don’t want to leave behind!

This little kit is perfect because it contains a mini tooth brush, small mouthwash and little toothpaste.

Did I forget any of your favorite travel sized beauty go to products?  If so, share in the comments section.  I love covering travel related topics.  Happy travels!  Now you can pack!

*For the Charitable Soul – Feed My Starving Children, located in Mesa, is a very special organization that enables individuals and groups alike to volunteer and pack food boxes together in a fun environment.  The boxes are shipped to hungry children around the world.  In addition to the volunteer opportunities, there is also a gift shop called the Marketplace.  The FMSC website explains that the Marketplace purchases handmade goods from hard-working artisans in the communities that receive FMSC meals. The items are then sold in the MarketPlace at FMSC packing sites and the purchases build communities and profits go back into the feeding programs.  Shop for a large variety of these cool gift items that give back here at this link.  So, I bought my mother-in-law a lovely gift that gives back, a 13-inch metal floral angel that was made in Haiti.  The card that is attached to the pretty angel shares that this one purchase provided 100 meals to hungry kids.  Love this gift idea.

*For the beauty queen chocolate lover – A fun candy store in the downtown Gilbert district called Rocket Fizz has all kinds of clever candies, fun treats and items from old days, too like candy cigarettes, Pop Rocks and more. I found Gerrit’s Mini Milk Chocolate Beauty Kit that contains over 3 oz. of chocolate shaped beauty items like a little mirror, lip stick and more. Super cute and sells for $3.49 at Rocket Fizz in Gilbert.

*For the jet set traveler – The Carry On Cocktail Kit Hot Toddy is a small square box that contains everything needed to create an inflight cocktail minus the liquor.  With this fun traveler’s gift, the recipient simply purchases the booze from the inflight crew and then adds the elements provided in the gift kit to make cocktails like a Hot Toddy, Moscow Mule, Old Fashioned and more!  So fun.  Found my kit at Nordstrom or at wandpdesign.com for $24 a kit.

*Wine Lover – Jumbo stemless wine glass that says, “I don’t give a sip!” And this fun glass holds one full bottle of wine!  Pair this with her favorite Vino and you have a winning wine gift!  Purchased this for $16 at Nordstrom’s.

*For the new parents – A super cute JOY photo ornament ($19.99) from CVS at their website, CVSPhoto.com.  I surprised my brother and sister-in-law with one of their new baby and they will hang on the tree and cherish it forever.  CVS also has other photo gifts like photo mugs, a photo puzzle, framed pics and much more.  Be sure to get your CVS photo gift ordered as the items take 7 to 10 days to be delivered.

My 3TV Segment Beauty Picks Holiday Gifts

How about a 12 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar beauty kit?  Or a big pink box of Soap & Glory items for only $40 that would cost over $75 sold individually?  A $2 hanging beauty product tree ornament?  Makeup brushes that compare to the more expensive Tarte line and an Olay item that we think performs as well as the much more expensive Clarisonic?  It is all here in my 3TV segment and it is all sold at Walgreens so the price is right and the shopping location is convenient and easy.  Check out my segment that will make shopping for the beauty product lovers on your list easy and festive since a lot of the beauty product packaging is ready for the tree.  Happy holiday beauty shopping!

Beauty Picks That Make Great Gifts!

As seen on my morning show today, Your Life Arizona, here is more information about the festively packaged terrific beauty picks that make great holiday gifts!  Yep, it is already that time of year to get your shopping done and I make it easy for you because all of these ideas are conveniently sold at Walgreens!  A big thanks to my blog beauty expert, Bianca who is a professional beauty consultant with Walgreens, for sharing these top picks by customers and by our beauty panel experts.  Take a look and get some of your holiday shopping done..

*Soap & Glory Flatter Box – ($30.00 a $52 value!) – This fun Soap & Glory gift pack packs seven impressive beauty products into one pretty pink gift box.  Included is a limited-edition pore perfecting powder, high definition collagen coat mascara, a liquid black eyeliner pen, three eye shadows, lip gloss plus an eye shadow brush and a half moon blusher brush, too.  Also, impressive about this kit is that several of the products are full-sized that include the SuperCat eye liner pen which can be used to create winged liner and other dramatic effects on the eyes and the Thick & Fast High Definition Collagen Coat Mascara.

*Soap & Glory Pink Big – ($40 at Walgreens) – Featuring seven of this line’s head to toe faves, this beauty gift is large and luxurious since the big pink box is filled with a nice shower gel, body butter, body buffer, hydrating hand cream, foot cream and more.  So fun to give and to get.  Plus, the kit includes two bonus items that are not usually sold at all, a big pink loofah and a pretty pink super soft fuzzy head band to keep makeup and products from getting into hair.  Scrub Of Your Life body scrub is also in this kit and it is Soap & Glory’s #1 selling scrub.  Hand cream and foot cream also come in this box and the Heel Genius is an Allure Beauty Awards winner, too!  The price gives you almost 50% off as purchasing each one of these items separately would be around $75 in total for all the items.

*L.A. Colors Strobing ($10 at Walgreens) – This 10-color highlight face palette comes with a large palette of highlighters that can be used as highlighter, but also eye shadows.  The value on this is incredible since all are full sized inside the pretty box. L.A. Colors is sold at high end stores like Nordstrom Rack, so it is super handy to grab this at your corner drug store.

*Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System ($39.99)  — Facial cleansing brushes are working well for anti-aging for women and for teenagers battling hormonal skin.  So, this splurge vs steal item compares to Clarisonic, which sells for $200 vs Olay’s version at a very reasonable $39.99.  This is one new hot beauty item to know about! Bianca’s customers are reporting back to her that they like this one better than the high priced Clarisonic.  One reason is that the replacement cleaning head costs much less with the Olay brand at only $12 (available at Walgreens) versus the $30 price tag for a replacement Clarisonic cleaning head.  The Olay one also includes the batteries, which is a nice touch, especially if given as a gift.

*Boots Prezzie Time Body Care Collection ($12 at Walgreens) – This great gift set is already packaged in a holiday bag so no wrapping is needed.  For only $12, the recipient gets nice Boots body wash, body scrub and a body polisher.  The price is right, the packaging is festive and the products make a perfect gift.  Bianca also pointed out that it doesn’t expire for 24 months, so this is one gift that you buy several of and have on hand for a birthday gift, Valentine’s, New Year’s and more.

*Hello Lovely Makeup Bag – ($10 at Walgreens) – Cute and pretty makeup bag that can be filled with goodies of your choice.  Very festive and fun!

*No7 12 Days of Beauty – ($40 and a $90 value!) – Boots No 7 has the perfect holiday packaging with a beauty gift kit Advent Calendar!  So fun!  Your recipient opens one flap a day to unveil a wonderful beauty product!  Some of the surprise items inside include mascara, eye shadow, lip gloss, primer, brow stuff and more.  Such a fun gift to give and receive!

*Wet n Wild Pro Brush Set – ($30 and a $90 value!) – Bianca is very impressed with Wet n Wilds new makeup brushes that were recently unveiled.  Her customers also like the quality and that they are cruelty free and vegan now.  The pink bunny symbol is now on all Wet n Wild products, which makes us happy. We also think this is a splurge vs steal when compared to the Tarte brushes which cost much more.  These brushes also sport the ergonomic handle.

*Aveeno Active Naturals Indulgent Scents Body Washes & Body Lotion Gift Set – ($10 and a $15 value!) – Years ago, when my kids were little and battled eczema, our pediatrician recommended Aveeno and I have loved the line ever since.  So, this set that saves $5 if you were to purchase it all separately and is one that I would enjoy as a gift.  Plus, the lavender scent is calming and moisturizing.

*A Little Something Hand & Lip Care Gift – ($4 each) – Great price for a great holiday beauty gift kit that is also festively packaged.  The Lovely Things kit contains the All Smiles Hand Cream and Lip Balm. The Fun Fun kit has This Hand Fruit On Hand Cream and Fruit On Lip Balm.  Super cute packaging so no need to wrap if you are in a rush.

*A Little Something Sugared Dreams Hand Cream – ($2 each) – Perfectly named hand cream for the season, nice travel and purse size, good price and the packaging hangs on the Christmas tree.

Finding and showing these gift items lowered my stress level since so many items are so easily accessible at Walgreens and since so many are already packaged in the perfect festive colors, boxes and bags.  What holiday gift kits do you love to give and receive?  Share in the comments section and Happy Holiday season shopping!

This Week’s 3TV Segment: Hot Walgreens Beauty Buys for Less!

Too hot to drive all the way to the mall for your beauty products?  Go no further than your local drugstore because Walgreens just added a bunch of hot beauty products with prices that are cool.  Many of these items can replace the more expensive drug store brands.  We found some splurge vs steal stuff in the beauty aisle.  I got the scoop from Walgreen’s beauty consultant, Bianca, who is also a part of my blog’s managedmoms.com team.  Look at what we found to keep you and your beauty budget looking good all summer long.

What’s Trending in Summer Beauty

Every time I research a beauty segment with Bianca, I learn about beauty trends.  And to be able to buy them for less at the drugstore is a bonus.  As you read about each product in this article, you will see the following trends:

*Metallics – read on below to see what the metallic trend is and how one drugstore beauty line is comparable to three department store lines that cost significantly more for similar products (in our opinion).

*Lush lashes – long lovely lashes continue to trend so read on to see which new mascara we like for summer.

*Unicorn – read on to see how the rainbow glow is one of the beauty stars of the summer show.

*Pure Pigments – this trend is made of concealer shades with colors that do different things when it comes to concealing redness, dark circles and more.  More later in the article.

*Clay Cleansing – different clay properties for your facial cleansing routine.  We cover that in this report, too.

*Brows – groomed and defined brows continue to rage on in the summer months, too.

*Multi-purpose beauty products – because time and money are both saved.  One of our faves for the summer is listed in a bit.

*Unique at home spa stuff picks – spa treatments continue to trend, but since we can’t always afford to visit the spa, read on to see our pick for a truly unique at-home two week facial spa treatment.

L’Oréal Infallible Paints & Metallics

Just like the more expensive Urban Decay line, L’Oréal brings this splurge vs steal to the drugstore.  Like the Urban Decay, Jeffree Star and Kylie lines, but for a lot less, L’Oréal offers Infallible Paint Metallics.

The L’Oréal Matte lip colors are very like the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit line in Kylie Cosmetics, but hers sell for $29 for both a lip color and lip liner versus Walgreen’s steal price of $7.99 (with a $2 off coupon offered through July 29th as regular price is $9.99).  Choose between matte or the L’Oréal Metallics, which gives a metallic shiny pigment look that lasts all day long.  Strikingly like the Kylie Metal lipsticks, but at more than half the price since L’Oréal sells for only $7.99 compared to the Kylie stick at $18.00.  Our testers tell us that the L’Oréal line stays on all day and looks brilliant, making this a successful dupe on the Kylie line.

L’Oréal also offers a metallic eye shadow that brightens the eye and give a nice full pigment of color with a great price of only $7.99 (with $1 off coupon now at Walgreens through July 29th).

Lush Lash Trend – Lash Paradise Mascara

One of Bianca’s top picks of the summer is L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara.  Extremely like the much more expensive Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara that sells for $23, the L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise at Walgreens costs only $9.99 (or even better get 2 for $15 through July 9th).

Photo from Maybelline website showing Unicorn makeup applied

Unicorn Beauty Trend

A beauty trend that I had not heard of is unicorn beauty.  I had seen the Starbucks unicorn drink and apparently the unicorn rage has hit the beauty shelves, too. Maybelline’s Master Fairy Highlight by FaceStudio Illuminating Powder gives a rainbow glow to the cheeks and other desired facial highlighting areas.  Up until now, the unicorn beauty products weren’t available at Walgreens, but the drugstore just added this to beauty shelves this month.  Get your trendy unicorn palette for $7.99.

Pure Pigments Trend

This trend speaks to me because I have long battled under eye circles and puffiness, so the Maybelline pure pigment Master Camo Color Correcting Pen line works great for all different skin types.  We are big fans of the crayon corrector applicator that applies the product just right.  The dark circles concealer works best under foundation and provides intense coverage, so a little goes a long way.  These sell for $7.99 each.

Spa Like Facial Clay Cleanser

We are loving L’Oréal’s new clay to mousse cleansing trio options that are free of parabens and silicones.  Each one contains a different clay element and they all remove everyday impurities like dirt, oil and pollution.   Pick the one that is right for you with three types to choose from.  The first product is the L’Oréal Pure-Clay Cleanser Detox & Brighten that is a detox-brightener made with the popular charcoal that is nature sourced.   The second option in the collection is the Pure-Clay Cleanser Exfoliate-Refine that exfoliates and refines skin with the red algae ingredient and the other one in this cool trio is the Pure-Clay Cleanser Purify-Mattify with eucalyptus.  This one felts so soothing on my skin.  Not sure which one to choose?  Check out L’Oréal’s website with a thorough explanation of each and recommendations based on skin type.

Still Trending: Brows!

Beautiful brows continue to be the beauty rage so be sure to check out Maybelline’s Browdrama Shaping Chalk Powder that has a cool applicator that sports both a wide side and a narrow side.  The wide side is for the inner brow and the narrow side is for the tail of the brow.  This is my personal favorite as it fills in brows easily for a full and natural look.  This sells for $7.99.

Our Fave Multi-Purpose Beauty Product

Summertime means constant shaving, so we are loving the super cool Soap & Glory line that offers The Righteous Butter Creamy Body Wash.  This 3-in-1 product is perfect for cleansing, shaving and moisturizing.  Contains shea butter, cocoa, grapeseed, sweet almond and macadamia nut oils. No wonder we love this stuff! Sells for $14 at Walgreens.  Plus, the Soap & Glory line has a $2 off coupon through December at Walgreens.  We will take that!

Truly Unique At Home Spa Treatment 2 Week Facial Treatment

No7 Youthful Vitamin C Fresh Radiance Essence is our pick to get brighter and more radiant looking skin.  This unique formula contains 5% Vitamin C powder that you release yourself into the bottle for a two-week treatment.  After two weeks, the Vitamin C loses its potency, so the treatment is not meant to go longer than that, although the box says that any leftover can be used for one month.  Very cool that the drugstore sells this and it costs $24.99.

There are so many more hot drugstore products that I could show, but I am out of time.  Just visit your local Walgreens and ask the store’s beauty consultant to show you more.

Happy Summer beauty shopping and thanks to Walgreens for offering so many items that are trending, compare well to more expensive department store brands and do the job while keeping us on our beauty budget.  More money left over to travel with and escape our desert heat!

If you caught my KTVK 3TV segment on the Your Life Arizona show today and want more details on the stuff I showed, it is all  here….

Summertime brings all kinds of stuff like travel, summer break from school, hot dry temps and more.  To keep summer fun and manageable, I found some cool gadgets that work great for solutions to summertime issues sun damage protection, traveling with kids, camping smart and more.  I also found some stuff that is cool for summer in fashion and fun.  Read on to see if one of your summertime issues is solved here and let the summer fun begin as you work to stay cool and keep the kids entertained.

Smart Snacking

With the kids home from school, snacks become a required part of the daily routine, which can throw parents off the diet track and contribute to unhealthy eating and weight gain in everyone.  So, my family came up with some smart snack ideas.  Here are a couple of our summer snacks that we place ahead of time on fun brightly colored Re-Play dishes.  I love these cool plates because they are made from recycled milk jugs, so they are earth friendly.  We try to live life as green as we can.  Here are some of our snack ideas…

*Red, white & blue food – Red frozen grapes (tastes like popsicles when eaten frozen), blueberries and popcorn without butter.

*A better chocoholic snack – Dark chocolate squares with almond butter for dipping or strawberry slices with dark chocolate syrup for dipping

*Guac & cucumbers instead of guacamole and chips

*Eat to hydrate snack pack – watermelon chunks, celery sticks with peanut butter and tomato slices with mozzarella cheese and a basil leaf.  Watermelon, celery and tomato are all hydrating foods.

The fun Re-Play dishes for your easy and earth friendly summer snacking are sold for $18 for a set of $6 at Teresa’s Creative Gifts on Facebook.  The Re-Play snack cups sell for $21 for a set of six and can be ordered at Teresa’s Creative Gifts on her Facebook account or email her at [email protected] or call 602-710-9181.  These dishes are made for babies, toddlers and kids and we also use them for our summer snack dishes as described above.

Smart Camping

Plan to camp this summer? Check out these cool accessories for smarter camping.  And some of these items make good Father’s Day gift ideas, too.

*Adventure Bracelet – This unisex bracelet can be worn or tied to backpack.  Multiple mini tools are all packaged neatly in the bracelet that includes a compass, temperature gauge, knife, screwdriver, whistle, scraper, fire starter, bottle opener and the cord can be cut if needed.  Teresa’s Creative Gifts sells 2 of these for $10.

*Fit Zip Illuminating Waist Pack – This expanding fanny pack holds a bottle of water, smart phone, keys and more.  Plus, it has a USB charging port and three LED flash modes so you can be seen when camping, hiking, biking and more. $15 each or 2 for $25 at Teresa’s Creative Gifts.

*O2COOL Battery 5 Inch Portable Fan – My family is addicted to sleeping with a fan, so if you are going camping, this portable fan will do the trick to keep you cool.  It also has a USB cord with an adapter for use in hotel rooms, etc.  I also like the white noise that this fan provides, which is nice when falling asleep away from home. Sells at Walgreens for $12.99

*Boiron Calendula Cream – This is a terrific go to homeopathic cream for all sorts of ailments like cuts, scrapes, minor burns, chaffing, bug bites and sunburn.  Calendula contains the natural ingredient, Garden marigold, which has been used for centuries as a healing and soothing substance. The light texture is ideal for use on dry or chafed skin and it is soothing and moisturizing.  This is such great stuff to know about for camping and for all sorts of summer activities that can result in skin issues.

Smart Sunning

Out in the sun for fun?  Don’t forget to protect yourself, especially here in the desert.  Here are some of my go to smart sun protection picks for all ages…

*La Roche Posay sunscreen – I like this line because different options are offered like the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Dermo-Kids Gentle Sunscreen Lotion SPF Broad Spectrum 60 that is paraben-free and fragrance free.  I also like the Oil Free La Roche-Posay Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen because it doesn’t cause breakouts.  This one is also free of parabens and fragrance.  This brand is sold at CVS stores, Walgreens and Target.

*Sun Burnt Advanced After-Sun Gel – I keep a bottle of this on hand every summer because usually someone ends up getting too much sun.  This nonsticky formula is gentle on already sensitive skin and rehydrates chapped and burned skin with aloe, Echinacea, calendula and cantharis. These natural actives soothe, heal and rehydrate skin.  I buy mine at Walgreens.

*Flapjacks Reversible Hats for kids – With UPF 50+ protection, this cute reversible hat is a must for babies, toddlers and young kids.  90% of sun’s rays are blocked out with this hat.  Sold at Teresa’s Creative Gifts for $25 and because it is reversible, it is like you are getting two hats for the price of one!

I also showed some stylish and cute hats and bling visors in my segment.  All sell at Teresa’s Creative Gifts and the links are in my blog at managedmoms.com.

Smart Summer Kids Travel Tool

I love when I find parent invented tools that work, especially when it comes to traveling with kids, not an easy thing to do.

*Lugabug – Busy mom, Jennie Helman, came up with the idea for Lugabug when she was traveling with her young children at a busy airport. Lugabug is a child’s travel seat that secures to luggage, creating the experience of fun, safe and efficient transport for kids. It’s a collapsible, economical and multi-purpose family travel accessory for quality-conscious buyers who prefer a compact product that minimizes their load, not adds to it, and reduces chaos while traveling. The child travel seat secures in seconds without taking up extra space. It is multi-functional and versatile and can also be used as an extra pocket when hung over luggage, a camp chair and/or a sitting pad. The top strap can also be adjusted and worn over the shoulders to carry extra stuff. It is intended for children aged 2 or older; maximum weight of 60 lbs. Made in the U.S.A. It is available for $64 at www.lugabug.com.

Fun Summer Stuff

I found some fun summer stuff as I was putting together the smart summer stuff, so I had to share.  Love these items!

*4th of July stuff – Look no further than Teresa’s Creative Gifts for all kinds of red, white and blue loot to have you in the spirit of the day come the 4th.  I showed the red, white and blue giant makeup/all-purpose bag ($26) and the red, white and blue scarf/vest (sells for $25 at Teresa’s Creative Gifts).  She has a ton of 4th of July items, so take a look to be in the red, white and blue spirit with your dress, accessories, decor and more.  Shop Teresa’s Creative Gifts at her facebook account here or email her at [email protected] or call 602-710-9181.

*BigMouth Inflatable Pool Party Beverage Boats – I saw these last year at more expensive department stores, so how fun that these are now available for less at Walgreens for $6.99 for a set of two.  Unicorn and donut shaped inflatable drink holders float in the pool and keep cups close and upright.  So fun!

Did I share any smart summer tools or fun summer items that you will use?  Any I should know about for my blog and segments?  Share here in the comments section.

Happy Summer!

From My 3TV Segment: Spring Beauty Product Trends

Although it may not feel like it in some parts of the country, spring has almost officially sprung…and it does feel like it here in Arizona.  So with that, I decided to feature what’s trending in spring beauty products on my 3TV morning show, Your Life Arizona (new name, same great show) today.  A big thanks to my blog beauty expert, Bianca, professional beauty expert for Walgreens, for working with me to feature some terrific beauty must haves, that are also affordable.  Take a look!

Spring Clean Your Face

Just like you do your home, give your pretty face some attention, too.  Here is what we like for facial care this spring…

*L’Oreal Pure-Clay Mask, Purify & Mattify and Exfoliate/Refine Pores Pure Clay Mask– ($12.99 each at Walgreens) – This will spring clean your face.  Plus, this line reminds us of the more expensive Glamglow mask that sells for over $50 at Sephora. Instead try this, L’oreal variety that is sold at Walgreens.  The pure clay mask can be layered and left on face for 15 minutes and then rinsed off.  It is great to use the Purify & Mattify twice a week and the Exfoliate & Refine Pores variety once a week to exfoliate.  This is definitely spring cleaning for the face that has perhaps just endured a harsh winter, hectic holiday season, cold and flu season and more.  Your face will feel and look refreshed.

*Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water – ($9.49 at Walgreens)  — Brand new from Garnier, for oily skin types and for sensitive skin, try this cleansing water to remove makeup and cleanse and purify pores all in one.  This is used as a rinse with no harsh rubbing required on the delicate facial skin. The mattifying formula makes this oil-free and fragrance free cleanser ideal and gentle for spring cleaning the skin.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Mineral Water Gel Cooling Effect – ($31 at Walgreens) — This allergy tested facial gel works for sensitive skin and provides a cooling effect, a nice touch for the many women who experience hot flashes.  This hydrates for 48 hours and can be worn day or night, but do note that there is no SPF in this formula.  It is also oil free.

*La Roche Posay Acne Innovation – ($29.99 at Walgreens – a $48 value!) — I have not personally tested this as I have been lucky to have not had acne (although I am told it could be coming with menopause!).  My blog beauty expert, Bianca, professional Walgreens beauty expert, says that this worked for numerous customers who used this 2-month supply, 3-step regimen to clear their acne.  The value is also good and Bianca tells me that many dermatologists provide coupons for this product, so if acne is an issue for your family, ask your dermatologist about this line and if they have coupons to give you. This set comes with a medicated gel cleanser, a clarifying solution and a dual action acne treatment product.  Also, clears up blackheads and whiteheads, too.

Spring Beauty – Lighten Up Beauty Products

*Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation On-The-Go – ($15.49 at Walgreens)  — With warmer temps and lots of sun, it is nice to go lighter with makeup in the spring and summer season.  This foundation achieves that.  Do note that this base does NOT contain an SPF, so be sure to use your daily moisturizer that includes SPF sun protection.

L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Blush – ($12.99 at Walgreens) — Pretty light floral shades for your blush to complement your bright pastels summer shades of makeup and clothing.

*Maybelline Illuminator Corrector Cremeux – ($7.99 at Walgreens)  — With lighter foundation in the spring and summer months, it is also nice to use a lighter concealer.  This one accomplishes that with a nice corrector stick that also illuminates skin so your face looks rested and bright.

Body Fun in the Sun Spring Stuff

*Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer – ($10.99 at Walgreens)  — Apply this moisturizer/subtle self-tanner in the shower on wet skin…hence the name, wet skin.  Our testers say this did not streak and lasted for a few days.  So, this is a lotion and self-tanner all in one.  No harsh odor either like so many self-tanners have.

*Banana Boat Dry Balance Sunscreen Lotion – ($11.99 at Walgreens)  — With an SPF UVA/UVB protection of 50+, you get coverage and sunburn protection, plus this unique formula is a matte finish.  Runners love this because it goes on like a matte, not oily or greasy and dries almost instantly.  This one is also recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.  This just arrived hot on the shelves and the matte finish makes this a unique and protective sunscreen.

*DermaVine Head to Toe Scrub Pink Coconut Head to Toe Scrub – ($9 at toejuice.com) – Dermavine has introduced several new products to the line that gave us one of my favorites…and funny-named products…Toe Juice!  Meet DermaVine’s Head to Toe Scrub Pink Coconut made of plant based extracts. This scrub perfectly hydrates, refreshes and repairs dry skin while also exfoliating, which is important to do.  This is especially true for our heels that get rough when exposed to the air with flip flop season in full swing.

Still Trending:  Lush Lashes

*La Roche Posay Effaclar Clarifying Oil-Free Cleansing Towelettes – ($9.99 at Walgreens)  — For gals with eyelash extensions (and a lot of women are wearing them now), this is the right makeup remover to use because it is oil free.  The oil in typical makeup remover products may loosen the glue on the lashes and shorten the lifespan of those lush long lashes.  So, use this product for removing makeup and to cleanse away oil and pore-clogging impurities.

*Rimmel ScandelEyes Waterproof Mascara – ($7.49 at Walgreens) — For those of us who aren’t doing the extensions or fakes, this is our top pick for a good spring/summer waterproof mascara that also won’t break the beauty budget.  Rimmel, the original inventor of mascara, does it right again with a wand that doesn’t clump and a formula for lovely lashes, even when swimming or doing water sports.  Ophthalmologist tested and suitable for contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes, plus it contains collagen, so this mascara does it all.

Hair Flair

*HASK Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo – ($8.49 at Walgreens)  — Bianca tells me that this dry shampoo is flying off the drugstore shelves.  There are several varieties, so I decided to try the Chia Seed one.  The long lasting dry shampoo is free of sulfates and parabens, another reason why we like it and with our warm temps just around the corner, you are sure to sweat, so this dry shampoo will buy you a few extra days in between shampooing.

*HASK Greek Yogurt Hydrating Deep Conditioner – ($3.29 at Walgreens) – And when you do return to shampooing your mane, don’t forget to take a little extra time to deep condition, especially with pool season here.  The dual conditioner formula combines Greek yogurt with fig and honey…so springy and good for your hair. Greek yogurt contains protein and calcium to help nourish and moisturize hair.  Vitamin rich fig and honey fight dryness and give hair a glossy shine, which is very nice for your spring nights out on the town.

Mani/Pedi Spring Shade Trends

*Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail Polish – ($8.99 at Walgreens) — Sally Hansen has a bunch of pretty springy shades with the barely there color trend offered as well.  Light, natural and pastel shades like Sheer Nirvana and Re-Nude are right on for spring weddings, graduations, Easter and all the other celebrations that accompany this time of the year.

Did I miss any spring shades or trends that you love?  Share in the comments section and be sure to check out my blog at www.managedmoms.com for more beauty news and spring trends.  Happy Spring!
